Auto Updates Explained

This week’s issue will explain the FirePrograms Version X.2 automatic update process which makes updating your program easier than ever. Next week’s issue will cover your ability to disable the automatic update process on your system.

Auto Updates Explained

  1. Each time a user logs into FirePrograms, a process runs to determine if any program updates are available.

  2. When an update is available from the FirePrograms update server, the first computer to OK this process will download the update through the internet. The first computer’s local program files will update as well as the FirePrograms database on the server.

  3. Subsequent computers that log into FirePrograms will update from the local network system. For compatibility purposes, each computer will be required to install the update before logging into the program. This step of the process is updating each computer’s local program files. Therefore, if the server was not the first computer to apply the update, the program should still be launched on the server so that it is prompted to apply the update to the server’s program files as well.

  4. If a user does not have sufficient Windows or FirePrograms permissions to download or install the update, then the user will be prompted to contact the System Administrator for assistance.

  5. If your department has FirePrograms Version X.2 installed but is not being prompted for auto updates, please do the following:

    • In FirePrograms, go to Help > About. If the version listed is 0.2.26.100 then you are not being prompted because you already have the latest update.
    • If running a different version, call 800.327.7638 or email support@fireprograms.com to determine that your updates are enabled in our system.

NOTE – It is possible that the auto update process can be blocked by your computer or network protection programs, i.e. firewall or anti-virus.
